First edition Small folio in original box (12 x 16 inches); limp pale printed wrappers; 93, [3]p; 5 color lithographs on separate Arches leaves; table of contents; colophon; 11.5 x 15 inches. Fine in a Near Fine slightly sun-faded publisher's box; leaves in unopened gatherings (loose bound and paginated, as issued); a few very small spot imperfections (speckles) text stock; a tiny chip to upper edge of first free end paper (barely noticed); an approximate 1/4 inch closed tear to rear first blank (end paper); else overall a remarkably fresh copy of this beautiful Tamayo item. Slipcased With five numbered Tamayo color lithographs ( "77/125"). Generously margined on heavy high-quality Johannot paper; lithographs on Arches. Said to be Tamayo's rarest livre d'artiste. This copy numbered "LXXVII" of 125 copies (colophon). Text in French. Apparently only four copies are listed on OCLC, and held by Harvard,Trinity College, Harry Ransom Center (University of Texas at Austin) and Northwestern University. The other eight copies listed under the same record are of a book of 152 pages, published the same year by the author, and a more literary work, very different from this livre d'artiste. A fifth copy belongs to Stanford University but this copy is inscribed by Tamayo and bound in leather. (Item ID: 131698)
