He was a winner of the National Prize of Literature in 2002, and was the director of Cuban Academy of Language. He also was a member of The Royal and North American Academy of the Spanish Language. Reports on the Cuban Revolution as shown through agricultural reforms. The photos are by Cuban photojournalist and artist, Mario García Joya "Mayito", (b. 1938) in Santa María del Rosario, La Habana.
