TRADICIÓN Y MODERNIDAD. LA BIBLIOTECA DEL OBISPO PEDRO JOSÉ CHÁVEZ DE LA ROSA.
Guibovich Pérez, Pedro.
Lima: Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Instituto Riva-Agüero, (Cuadernos de investigación del Instituto Riva-Agüero, 2), 2014. First edition 152p., graphics, wrps. New Paperback This work plays a central role in the process of transmitting values, knowledge and ideas from the Old Continent to these lands, and their presence is documented from the early stage of European colonization of the Andes. Information came as part of imports by the merchants established in major cities of the Viceroyalty and in the luggage of travelers laity and clergy; and, not infrequently, hidden, as a kind of stowaway in trunks and pipes. The cast of texts that circulated in the Peruvian virreinato was very different as different was its origin. Theology, history, philosophy, architecture, literature, among many other subjects, were known thanks to the mechanical reproduction of texts and action of booksellers and merchants. Equally varied was its origin: Paris, Madrid, Lyon, Sevilla, Antwerp, Cologne, Rome and Lisbon constituted just some of the publishing centers that guided their production to America.
