First edition, presumed. 149p., wrps; spine chipped and edges worn, but otherwise a good copy Good Paperback First Spanish edition of the popular book of essays, first published in 1899, by Jean Juares, the French socialist leader, anti-militarist and supporter of Alfred Dreyfus (this edition being publishe the year of Dreyfus' exoneration). Juares was an influential historian of the French Revolution and among the first social democrats. He lead the French Section of the Workers' International, which uniied socialist movements in France. Juares' anti-militarist stance was widely unpopular as WWI broke out, and he was assassinated by a nationalist on July 31, 1914 (the assassin was tried and acquitted, but was killed by Spaniard Republicans in 1936).
