Folio, folded in half horizontally, approximately 12.5 x 16 inches; a fine copy Fine Bando communicating a royal decree by Jose de Galvez, former inspector general of New Spain, addressed to Antonio Maria Bucareli y Ursua, the viceroy of New Spain. The decree announces the annulment of various taxes and tarrifs on consumer goods, such as Chinese products, textiles, alcohol, oil, jewels, household furniture and so forth. Galvez and Ursua were important figures in the Bourbon Reforms, a set of legislation sought to consolidate Spanish imperial authority but ultimately led to the wave of independence movements later in the 19th century (Item ID: 172777)
