In 1965 Cuban Jesuit priest José A. Moreno moved to Santo Domingo to write his thesis on sociology and work in the community of San Miguel. What should have been a study of socio-cultural conditions in the Dominican capital became a testimony and first-hand documentation on the April Revolution: the attempt to return to the 1963 Constitution and restore Juan Bosch to the presidency. "EL PUEBLO EN ARMAS" is the result of Moreno's interaction with the Dominican people during this time, and contains his political observations while living in the rebel zone of Santo Domingo.
