The study of medicinal plants has been carried out constantly since the arrival of the Spaniards in Mexico, since the natives used the plants as a remedy to alleviate different diseases, among other uses. Therefore, much of the knowledge of useful Mexican flora is immersed in the works and writings of Spanish chroniclers such as the Florentine Codex, Cruz Badiano and the complete works of Francisco Hernández.
