They are the books of paintings and characters, as the 16th century chroniclers called the Mesoamerican codices, precious testimonies of the cultural development achieved by the ancient Mexicans. Along with the wealth of its monuments, pyramids, palaces, ball courts, sculptures and wall paintings, the codices with glyphic signs and the color of its images show much of what was its vision of the world. She included the expression of her thoughts on cosmic origins and the stories of particularly significant events throughout her history: founding of towns and cities, genealogies and exploits of their rulers, warlike confrontations. All this almost always framed in their calendrical accounts and sometimes also in images that evoke the geography of the corresponding place.
