"Historia Vulgar" deals with two themes: the conflict between progress and tradition and a love story hampered by gossip that, while coming true, do not prevent the plot from leading to a happy ending. The argument is based on paintings of customs, period chronicles and descriptions of landscapes. First published in 1904, this is Delgado's fourth and last novel; he had previously written La Calandria (1891), Angelina (1895) and Los relatives rico (1903); in them, as in Historia vulgar, a romance disturbed by slander is presented.
