Luz Méndez de la Vega (1919-2012) met the French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of The Little Prince, in 1938, at the Military Hospital in Guatemala City, where he was treated by the writer's father, Dr. José Méndez Valle, due to a plane crash he had suffered in his plane when it was flying over Guatemala. In other words, that meeting occurred before The Little Prince was originally published in 1943. This experience, without a doubt, marked Luz Méndez de la Vega from her youth and moved her, later, when she was already a retired university professor and researcher, to carry out a careful and deep semiological investigation about this work.
