"Plagie, copie, manipule, robe, reescriba este libro" is part of an open and incomplete investigation into the act of copying work within literary and artistic fields. In this work, Valeria Mata seeks to question, from an anthropological perspective, concepts such as originality, individual authorship, and the private ownership of works. She explores how copying is usually considered an unethical practice that is seen as a threat to "originality" and causes social repudiation; however, demands for authenticity and social perceptions of copying vary in different cultures and in different types of artistic fields. Mata shows of the act of copying is not a universal transgression as is usually stated, and what is prohibited within literary and artistic practices has also changed over the years.
