"The magic glasses/ Los lentos magicos" are the first and second installations of a comic book series about a young Latina named Heidy growing up in South Central Los Angeles. Heidy is uncertain about what she wants to do with her life, finding in difficult to find her own voice in a world dominated by social media and relentless public opinion. Her mother is religious and tries to instill the tenets of her faith in Heidy, but she rebels against it. She begins her own journey when she finds a pair of magical glasses, which leads to a series of adventures. This work uses magical realism to tell Heidy's story and simultaneously explore the issues many young people face today.
