“Altares y penas” is a collection of 15 photographs by Chilean artist Mauricio Toro-Goya, through which he investigates the violence and pain of unbridled capitalism and resistance against it. Through his images, Toro-Goya shows expressions of rage, impotence, and fury against the political right in Chile, and employs vibrant colors to symbolize the political left. Just as Oaxaca revived popular graphics to represent their fight during the social revolt of 2006, Chilean youth often used colorful graphics as part of the 2019 protests.
