The Quimbaya Treasure, an extravagant gift from the Colombian State to Spain in 1892, made the aesthetic and technical quality of its style known to the world. Since then it has been considered one of the most notable in Colombia and America. This book is the result of more than fifty years of study of early Quimbaya goldsmithing. Clemencia Plazas, interested in its technical complexity, its aesthetic quality, its stylistic coherence and its influence and contributions to American metallurgy, examined 1,085 pieces, located in the Gold Museum and 33 other museums. She established 16 categories, according to their form-function, divided into three groups: utensils for chewing coca leaves, ornaments and others. Through the sober and unadorned forms, characteristic of the early Quimbaya style, it can be deduced that they were the product of a complex society, with individual leaders.
