Covering and discovering the fraud that caused the imprisonment of Echavarría, a conservative Medellin industrialist who allegedly plotted to assassinate General Rojas Pinilla in 1953. The plot implicated the government and supporters of President Laureano Gomez. Handling of the affair created serious tensions within the administration and precipitated the coup carried out by General Rojas Pinilla on JUne 13, 1953. Echavarrria was arrested and tortured. He was pardoned in 1954.
